The Antagonist #3
1/12/2009
After making me one of six poets featured in their November issue, Cardiff-based magazine The Antagonist have been kind enough to publish my work once again. The piece of flash fiction, entitled 'The Return', was written in early 2008 and I am very pleased for it to have finally found a home in the literary section of the magazine's December outing. This month's issue is available from antagonistinternational.com in PDF format for only £1.50, so get yourself a copy and support a great independent magazine in the process. A few of The Antagonist’s contributors, or 'minions', are reading at the Square Issue 6 launch this Sunday (6th December) at the North Star, North Road, Cardiff. The launch of this special Women's Issue promises to be a great night, bringing together some of the best of the Swansea and Cardiff poetry scenes, and I will be in attendance if I can shake off this bout of severe man-flu that has kept me in bed for most of the past week.

The Antagonist #2
3/11/2009
I am one of six poets featured in this month's edition of The Antagonist, an independently-published Cardiff-based magazine which has strong links with the Swansea writing community. Founded in Minnesota in 2001, The Antagonist has since been through many incarnations, including three websites, a blog and two series of printed magazines. The Antagonist website has recently been given a shiny makeover, which means its content is a bit sparce at the moment, but I still recommend you check it out: http://www.antagonistinternational.com Also featured in this issue is the very talented Liza Penn-Thomas, a good friend of mine, with her poem ''Icebreaker', one I always enjoy reading. This is the first time that we have been published together, and I hope it will not be the last. This month's issue is available from the website as a free PDF, or directly from http://filebeam.com/d38484..a75db7b50862c0b6371d094a38 To obtain your free copy type 'Elizabeth' when prompted for the password. Agenda Broadsheet #12
3/6/2009
I am pleased to say that two of my poems, 'They Sang Gwahoddiad' and 'School Eisteddfod', are featured in Agenda's Online Broadsheet 12, which can be found here: agendapoetry.co.uk The broadsheet accompanies the magazine's recent double issue 'Carpenters of Song', a special edition which placed a focus on Welsh poetry. A new initiative by the magazine – which celebrates its 50th birthday this year – the broadsheets are published as online supplements to printed issues of Agenda, offering "an unrivalled forum for young poets." As well as featuring young Welsh poets, Broadsheet 12 also showcases the work of three young Welsh artists. Of these three, I particularly liked the work of James Donovan, which for some reason (although I must stress I am by no means an aspiring art critic) reminded me of a few of Hieronymus Bosch's paintings. Examples of Donovan’s work can be found close to my poems in the broadsheet. Paragraph Planet
4/12/2008
Just a quick note to say that 'Climbing Tree' will be the featured paragraph on paragraphplanet.com this Saturday (06/12/08).
'Climbing Tree' had been trying its hardest to be a poem for the best part of two years, but I think the idea lent itself quite well to this task so I cut, copied and pasted and the result will be on the Paragraph Planet website from Saturday. From academi.org: "[Paragraph Planet] invite submissions of 75 word paragraphs on any topic. These might be describing an object in detail, or capturing a moment. They could also be extracts from a short story or a novel, as long as they fit the criteria of being exactly 75 words. Each day, a different paragraph is presented on the home page." I would recommend you also check out their archive section (which is linked on the home page) and, if you fancy it, take up the challenge of writing your own 75 word paragraph for submission. Blue Tattoo #6
15/10/2008
Blue Tattoo is a Welsh Books Council-funded magazine edited by Dafydd Prys, the associate editor of Planet. I have a short story, 'Block', featured in Issue 6, which is available now. From academi.org: "Blue Tattoo, a quarterly magazine, [features] both established talent and new voices of Welsh fiction. Inside [is] a range of short story styles, from the traditional and modern to prose and graphic novel style stories as well as a contemporary review section." You can order Blue Tattoo directly from Dafydd Prys via the contact details here, or pick a copy up from selected book shops across Wales. Issue 5 was available in Swansea’s Borders store (located in Fforestfach), but at the moment they are yet to receive any copies of Issue 6. Square #3
12/10/2008
Last night saw the launch of the third issue of Square magazine at Cardiff’s A Shot In The Dark café, with guest reading from Alun Rees, Stuart Thomas, Jim Bartlett, Jackie Jones and myself. It was a great night, with some excellent poetry on offer from my fellow readers and the one poet who braved the open mic that followed us. Two of my poems, 'Streak' and 'Seated Female Nude, c. 1916', are featured in this issue of the magazine, which you can buy here or at one of the locations in Cardiff listed below:
Square is also available from selected shops around Wales via The Welsh Books Council (including Borders in Swansea, where I picked up my first copy of the magazine). |
